Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic as well as a public speechwriter. She was the creator of Feminist Frequency a website that provides commentary and videos on the representation of women in pop cultural. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit educational website which investigates representations of women in popular culture narratives. The challenge of destroying stereotypes regarding women is her primary goals. But, she also highlights issues related to specifically targeted harassment online against women and for other groups that have been left out. Sarkeesian is also a graduate of York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Alongside being an acclaimed public speaker, she's given speeches at the TEDxWomen XOXO The XOXO Conference as well as the United Nations Broadband Working Group. Inquiring about gender identity and feminism from an early age she launched her own website Feminist Frequency in the year 2009 when she was still a student at the university. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining gender representation in video games. She found herself the target of a harassment online campaign. She was not deterred by the assault, the fact is that it only bolstered her drive to become a media critic and feminist. In recognition of the many achievements she's made for feministism, she's recognized with numerous awards. Anita Sarkeesian is an award winner for her media criticism and is the creator of Feminist Frequency an educational non-profit that explores the representations of women in pop media and the narratives that surround them.
